Lazzarin et al. - Flow under vertical sluice gates: Flow stability at large gate opening and disambiguation of partial dam-break multiple solutions. SUPPLEMENTARY MATERIAL This folder contains video recordings of the laboratory experiments with partial dam break (see also Table 4): ExpD1_Y0=0.170m.MOV ExpD2_Y0=0.180m.MOV ExpD3_Y0=0.185m.MOV ExpD4_Y0=0.190m.MOV ExpD5_Y0=0.195m.MOV ExpD6_Y0=0.200m.MOV Parital dam-break experiments are conducted using a vertical, sharp-crested, sluice gate with the fixed gate opening a = 0.096 m. A second plexiglass panel, placed just downstream of the sluice gate to temporarily close the opening, is suddenly removed to generate the partial dam-break flow. For relatively low values of the initial water depth (experiments D1 to D3), a non-orifice flow is observed after the sudden removal of the additional panel. For the cases D4 and D5, an orifice-flow condition initially occurs; after a short time (0.5 s in test D4 and 2.0 s in test D5), the flow configuration obviously changes to non-orifice flow. Experiment D6, instead, exhibits a stable orifice-flow with quasi-steady flow conditions.
