All evaluations were performed at the Adolescence Spine Diseases Diagnostic and Therapeutic Center at Padova University Hospital and at the Institute of Pavia of the Istituti Clinici Scientifici Maugeri IRCCS. |
| Data collection method: |
A total of 24 adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) naïve to treatment (age: [13.21±1.44] years, Body Mass Index (BMI): [19.47±4.03] kg/m², Cobb angle: [25.63±9.12]°) were recruited from the Adolescence Spine Diseases Diagnostic and Therapeutic Center at Padova University Hospital and from the Pediatric Orthopedic Clinic at the Istituto di Cura “Città di Pavia”. Eighteen healthy adolescents were recruited as controls (CTRL) (age: [13.22±1.44] years, BMI: [21.19±4.34] kg/m²) through public advertising and dissemination of the project in secondary schools and sports centers. The postural evaluation involved recording CoP signals in both the mediolateral (frontal plane) and antero-posterior (sagittal plane) directions during four static postural conditions. These conditions included standing on a firm surface with eyes open and closed, as well as standing on a foam surface with eyes open and closed. Each condition lasted 60 s. |
| Statement on legal, ethical and access issues: |
Ethical approval for the study was given by the Medical Ethics Committee of the Teaching Hospital of Padova on 13 April 2023 (n. 5627/AO/22). Data were handled in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (EU, 2016/679). All procedures were carried out in accordance with the ethical standards for medical research set out in the Declaration of Helsinki. Written informed consent was obtained from all participants and their legal guardians. Participation was voluntary and withdrawal was allowed at any time without consequence. |
